St. Martinville students tour Angola
Several inmates from Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola spoke to a S.A.V.E. group from St. Martinville Senior High School Nov. 9 about prison life. The student group visited the injection table, inmate dorms and saw the old electric chair. Academic Decathlon coach Sherrie C. Jacobs said school officials took students to the jail to try to intervene in their lives before they make a destructive choice that leads to prison. Students later discussed the experiences they witnessed on the tour.

School Resource Officer Michael Barber took all seniors in the St. Martinville Senior High School S.A.V.E. club on an LSU tour Oct. 29 so they can have an idea of what a university and campus life is like. A spokesman spoke to students about financial aid, what ACT score is required to enter and classes.

More of this storyThe Delcambre High School Band, “The Pride of DHS” under the direction of Keith Wyatt, brought home honors from the Northwestern State University Marching Contest in Natchitoches Oct. 31. They received the title of Best Band In Class in the Class AA band competition. There were 13 other high school bands in this class from Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas, making this the largest class to compete. The DHS Band was the only band to represent Iberia Parish.
