The common perception is that Gore is a great enviromentalist and W. is against the enviroment. Go to Snopes.comand type in "A Tale Of Two Houses." It explains how one of them lives in a house that consumes more energy in one month than an average American house uses in an entire year. The other house uses every "green" feature that can be used in building a house today. Some of this technology includes the house being heated and cooled using geothermal technology which only consumes 25% of that of normal heating and cooling methods. Rainwater is collected and goes into a 25,000 gallon cistern that is underground. Wastewater from the sinks and showers are collected, cleaned, and then used for irrigation. Guess who owns this house. For those Doubting Thomases out there, look it up.

It's a plan to make companies pay for "carbon credits" If a company wants to output a certain amount of carbon they have to buy credits. And if a company doesn't use all of their carbon credits they can sell them. The plan is being sold by the global warming scare. (October 3rd coldest on record) I believe there is a huge potential for corruption with this plan. I also think that this plan will hurt a lot of companies. This plan could potentially create more unemployment because a lot of companies won't be able to pay all the new carbon fees, driving some companies out of business. Cap and trade will supposedly create "green jobs". What are green jobs?
I found an orange cat earlier this week at Bouligny Plaza, or rather "it found me". Poor little thing, someone did it the favor of wrapping its front leg in an ace bandage. I'm not sure if that was done out of kindness or ignorance, but now this cat has had to have its front leg amputated. I am now several hundred dollars poorer and one young cat richer. Please people, if you aren't sure about how to handle a pets illness, at least call a vets office and ask their opinion. I'm sure they would have told you not to bind a cats leg for who knows how long. I surely was not out looking for another pet, I have enough adopted animals at my house as it is. Oh yes, he also is now neurtered so we don't have to worry about another stray animal reproducing litter after litter. I can only Thank God for my vet, he is truly a kind, good person. It's been a long, long time since any word has been spoken to the public about the future of the "Historic" Vida Bridge. All we locals know is that there is no crossing of any vehicular or foot traffic possible at this time, nor has there been for quite sometime. Does this "Historic" bridge still qualify as a bridge? Who will make a determination, and when, as to the future of this crossing? How will funding for whatever happens be acquired? Anyone??

Can someone explain to me what is Cap and Trade and how it will effect the oil and gas industry here? I see there are a few brand new schools around here. My son goes to one that was just built. Its a beautiful building. But why did they need a brand new school? The elementary school I went to was built around 1900 and is still being used today, while having been remodled a few times and having additions put on the school grounds. Same with the HS I went to.
I want to clear up the information that was printed in the DI yesterday regarding the employee from the 911 center that was arrested and charged for a felony crime by the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department. First each employee of the 911 center is a commissioned deputy with the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department. For Sgt. Ryan Turner to state that the dispatcher was NOT is a false statement. Each employee there was offered employment by the Ackal administration and are all under the umbrella of the Sheriff Department. Sgt Turner's attempt to sway the facts in the statements that he made was merely an attempt to make it appear as though the employee of the 911 center was NOT a sheriff deputy. I write this to make sure that everyone who read the story knew exactly who this dispatcher was employed by. Her check, benefits, and commission card all came from Iberia Parish Sheriff Department. Although the dispatchers take calls for the fire department, they are ALL employees of the IPSO.

fFound a blue heeler , had to take him to Humane Shelter as I can't keep him ( at my limit) the shelter was unable to keep him due to lack of space. He was turned over to the Iberia Animal Control at the base. Please if you can save him he is deserving of a second chance as his only crime was being lost ,not wearing a collar & wanting to herd the cats in the area.

I would like to know why is it that the Daily Iberian has rules posted as to how to write a letter on the forum, however, Outraged who comments on almost everything, has broken nearly every single one of those rules. He sometimes types in all caps, he is constantly calling people idoits or stupid, and almost always strays away from the topic on hand. He has a real anger problem in my opinion, and he has this thing he does with poems that is just rude and degrading. I think he should be made to follow the rules just as the rest of us are expected to. If not maybe he should not be permited to post anything for a while until he can follow the rules.
The Associated Press had eleven reprters do a fact check on Sarah Palin's book. Of course the AP did not see the need to fact check either one of Obama's books, or Joe Biden's book. I Issue a challenge to the AP. Why don't they read Al Gore's book. These eleven reporters found six innaccuracies in a 400 and something page book. My challenge to these eleven reporters is for them to try and find six FACTS in Al Gore's book.

I am at a loss to understand why gas prices in St Mary parish (in particular Franklin) are the first to go up, yet the last to drop. This happens at merchants that sell different brands of gasoline . It is usually on average 10 cents higher than it's adjacent parishes . Any answers would be greatly appreciated .
I have a beautiful little dog. I walk him in our neighborhood several times daily on a leash. What bothers me is animals on the loose. Concerned that I did not know the leash law for the entire parish, I was redirected when I called the parish council to someone who read the law to me over the phone. I live out of the city limits so I needed to know the leash law . The woman on the phone read me the laws which are quite extensive. She said these laws are parishwide. The leashes are required for animals from dogs and cats to chickens etc. She also told me that when this occurs I can call the pound to come and pick up any animal uncontained or unleashed. I told her I WILL do this the next time. If you love your animals please abide by the laws to keep yourself and your animals safe.

I have always looked forward to the joyful holidays . Christmas is my favorite , but for the pass year or so Christmas is hard to swallow . My mother passed away on Christmas day which be be two years this Christmas . Usually , I would began getting into Christmas spirit around Thanksgiving , decorating and just filling our home with decorations and making preparations . I tried last year but was unsuccessful . Now Thanksgiving is near and I'm still in this mode . When I'm shooping I see all the beautiful decorations and my first attempt is to purchase , so I put them in my basket and as I'm walking around the store looking at other items I go back return the Christmas items . How can an individual get out slumber mode during the holidays ? Serious respondants might be helpful .

Other than satellite, which I have never had and not sure of the quality, why is there no cable competition for Cox? Cable is not a necessity, but it has become something that is hard to live without and this is apparent b/c of the cost of cable. Cable has become just as expensive as electricity. I have internet b/c I have a school aged son to complete assignments, but I am tempted to disconnect it b/c my bill has been over $100 and I do not have HBO, Cinemax, etc. Then commercials appear for specials that an existing customer can not take advantage of unless you have not had service for at least 3 months. What a way to reward us. What is your opinion on this?

I'm worried about the President's "absence", particularly now at this critical point in his young presidency. Precious little has been done about Gitmo and even less about improving the military situation in Afghanistan. In view of last week's massacre at Fort Hood, our soldiers overseas need to know that their commander-in-chief has not forgotten them and will, hopefully, send reinforcements soon. This will improve their moral. Keeping a low profile. now is not advisable. It's important to our nation that Obama shake off his lethargy an become a true leader.

There is an infestation of loose chickens roaming the the area of the west side of town . These wild flying chickens are destroying homeowners property . They seem to be congregating from a house on West Washington Street next to a business . This chickens are roaming in taxpayers yards on West St. Peter , digging up flowerbeds , doing their business on people carports and driveways and flying all over the place . While driving I have even seen them on Lasalle and Field Street . If I see these animals , I know for a fact the city councilmans that constantly ride around town must be aware the loose bothersome animals are causing problems for taxpaying property owners . This situation is entirely too obvious and distracting . I recently relocated on West St, Peter to find these animals destroying my propertty and my neighbors property . Neighbors say this problem has been going on is getting worst . What is the Mayor and the city councilman in this area going to do about this nuissance ? Putting a fence would not help because they are flying all over when you run after them . They are circulating , digging and crowing on properties all day long . These creatures should be kept in cages . Please , only concrete answers will answers will help .
What do you think about this business of having to change the time every 6 months? I think it is time to stop this nonsense. This is just my opinion, but I think it is rediculous to have to adjust to this every few months. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to the volunteers who helped with our first ever Keep Iberia Parish Beautiful Litter Walk last Saturday (October 31st) in Coteau. Although the weather was previously "terrible" for two nights prior, you all came out and made a huge difference in just two short hours. 33 bags of debris, trash, and litter picked up alone Highway 88, around Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, by Francis Romero Park, and along the Highway 90/88 interchange/overpass. Also we could not have done as well without our great inmate crew and their supervisor, Deputy Minos. These young men really worked hard for our parish. Thank you Thank you Thank you to Warden Frank Ellis and the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department for always being there when we need and call. Remember it will take each and every citizen in Iberia Parish working together to achieve the ultimate goal--a cleaner, litter free Iberia Parish for future generations to enjoy and be proud to call home! To all who volunteer and give of your time, just know you have my deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks--always!

If you have a gasoline powered generator, you know how fun it is before a storm to run out and fill all of your gas cans. Then after the storm when you need more gasoline you get to go wait in a very long line at one of the few stations that have their pumps working. We recently had our gasoline generator converted to run on natural gas. It runs smoother, no carburetor problems, and no chasing down gasoline. I doubt that I would be allowed to say on here where I had this done, but it was here in town.

I am not Webster's Dictionary, nor do I pretend to never make mistakes, but why is it that when some writers want to rant and rave, make smart remarks, replies, and comments or even post initial topics, there are so many words misspelled or no puncuation to let you know where the sentence ends and another begins? I am confused. I enjoy reading the forums and ''hearing'' what people have to say, but it doesn't take much effort to add a period or take that extra 'n' out of 'brinnging'. I know it is a minor thing, sometimes, but you'd be surprised how many people either really write like that. I use to work in a sales office and adults would come in to get a service and would not be able to read or write. Just a thought...

Lastnight after trick or treating was over i went to pick up my nieces boyfriend from his house(by the way i am white) he live in between two streets down a side street. I passed the cop while turning down the street he lives on. I picked him up from in front of his house and kept going when i got to the next street i seen that the cop was comming down there as well. As he passed me by i noticed he turned around to get behind me he followed me a little ways then he put his bright lights on me the he followed me a little more before turning his lights on to pull me over. When i got out and walked to his car he told me he pulled me over for not having my license plate light working. I was thinking that was not true as he just passed me on the next street and didn't come to get me and how did he notice it going in the opposite direction. I will tell you how hw noticed it it was when he seen us together and turned around to follow us he needed a reason to pull me over. He asked me what i was doing there and where i was going i told him so he went ask my passenger but he changed the question to why i kept making the block around his house. I truely believe i got pulled over because I am a white guy ridding and i had just picked up a black guy. I just want the opinions of the new iberia citizens because this type of profiling needs to stop. and by the way for any of you people that want to be smart @#$es i know my lincese plate is supposed to have the light working i just didn't know it was out.

Parents, we are living in troublesome times....This is a reminder to accompany your kids while trick or treating. Dress them in light colored clothing or have something reflective. Don't just stop in front of a house and let the kids get out. Know who it is that is giving that candy.....in case you might have to backtrack some "laced" candy. Make sure the kids can "see" with their masks on. It is not wise to accept home-baked goods. Oh, last but certainly not least.....there are some costumes for little girls that look more like club clothes. Don't dress your little girl like a prosti-tot. There are too many pervs out at this time.......waiting!!!!
I know everything in the world is stressed and strained right now, but when I see articles stating that the State of Louisiana is looking to eliminate jobs, I am dumbfounded. I wish they would ask me or the several hundreds, maybe thousands of people in the state that have been laid off and still waiting for unemployment to kick in, in my case, this will be the 5th or 6th week. I lost track. Not to mention I stayed on hold for about an hour and 45 minutes just for her to tell me keep filing my claim. Um, I know that, can you please give me info that www.laworks.net can not provide? Then I applied for food stamps, emergency at that b/c I had already received my last check for the month of September. I applied 9/23/09 and received my emergency stamps (suppose to be 4 days) on 10/23/09. Thank GOD I have a mother and a father that can feed me, but what about the people that don't have that? When I called the case worker, she said she has 40 cases ahead of mine? 40??? Wow...I called HUD to inquire about applications and they told me that they would not be taking applications for at least another 2 years? What u say? What about the people that cannot afford rent, can't find a job to pay rent, and have no family/friends to fall back on? Guess the state needs to hire more people to build more homeless shelters b/c looks like they will be needed.

Please Help!!! My son took my black lab mixed dog for a joy ride on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, in the back of his white Toyota truck. Some how he lost my dog. He was last seen in the back of his truck at the Food N Fun on the corner of Darnall Rd and Hwy 182 (Spanish Trail). After leaving Food N Fun he went down Darnall Rd to visit a friend on Ozenne Rd., in Lydia. When he arrived at his friends house he doesn't know if the dog jumped out of the truck and ran off or if he was even in the back of the truck when he arrived. Please help!! I am offering a reward. He is a black mixed lab with white markings on his chest, he is wearing a small chain link collar with his rabies tag attached. Please call: 337-352-1019. Thank you.
I am aware and deeply concerned about an incident that occurred last week at Coteau Elementary. There was a small article about it in Friday's Daily Iberian, but I feel there should be more said about this situation. The PRINCIPAL was assaulted by an aide who was being reprimanded for not properly performing her duties, and that doesn't make at least the Second Front of the paper. The public should be outraged that this "woman" physically attacked her supervisor, drew blood, and went back into the school's classrooms to brag about what she had done. I hope I am not the only person who is bothered by this. Who do you think will want to run our schools if this is a fear that is valid? And how can we trust our children will be properly cared for and secure when these kinds of people are running about?

I was born in the 1950's. I was born to a what is now classified as a "white" family and we had to work to make ends meet. Today, I am considered a white / male. I never viewed myself as such. But in being viewed this way, I am not given the same latitude as others in that if I use certain "street" words; I am being a hateful person. Yes, this happens even though others speak the same language and it is "cool."
I would like to know if there every be anything done with the visitor side, because when it rains it is a mess to get to your seats. My thoughts with -2- 5a teams playing there and out of town teams coming in the school board would want it to look nice and make a good impression, but the way it is now the only thing wanting to sit on that side is pigs.
I am in need of honest advice. One of my friends was recently in a horrible accident. She was in ICU for almost two weeks and is now facing an extended stay in a hospital and months of physical therapy. I was thinking about how I might help the family out in their time of need. I have limited means myself in the current times we all face. I do however have one thing. A 1928 Kimball Grand Piano. I was wondering if there might be enough interest in playing this piano to host a benefit for my my friend. Perhaps "A Night With The Grand" sort of thing. I usually bounce ideas off of my daughter but she has turned 18 and knows it all now, especially how NOT to be home or reachable, so I am turning to you with this. Please be honest but kind. With medical marijuana legal in the land of nuts and flakes and our Dear Leader easing up on federal laws concerning the herb, my question is about drug testing. If you live in a state where you can smoke it legally for medical purposes, and have a prescription, but you have a job where they test for drugs (including marijuana) what happens if you test positive for marijuana?
