Opposite of love not hate

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 2:09 PM CST

A good friend asked me the other day, “What is the opposite of love?”

Knowing the depth of his brilliant brain, I refrained from answering the obvious, “Hate.” I opted to play ignorant and say nothing. He said the answer is,“apathy.” The more I think about it, the more I believe he is absolutely correct. You see, when you hate someone or something, you care about that person’s actions or the results of the “thing” that is happening. The opposite of love is apathy. The reason this country is in the shape it is in is because we have forgotten how to love America thus giving rise to the apathy that has paralyzed us. How long has it been since generations have been taught the importance of patriotism? I suspect that at least two if not three generations have slipped by without emphasis on being a patriotic American. Thus our children and their children and their children’s children have learned not to love America. It just isn’t the thing to do anymore. Truly patriotic organizations like the SAR, DAR and CAR have become relegated to the remaining few who remember patriotism’s importance. Our civic and service organizations still have the vision and I thank God for them. The rest of us have become so involved with us that we have ignored the U.S. The good news is, “It is not too late.”  There are organizations like those aforementioned and other great groups like the numerous Tea party organizations and Concerned Citizens for Freedom of Louisiana’s Third Congressional District who want your participation and support. America needs those of us who still know how to love her lest we allow this nation to continue to be systematically dismantled by those who would best profit by her demise. For America’s sake, find one and join today.
