A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Genieve Riggs, 81, on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in New Iberia, with Rev. Msgr. Ronald Broussard as celebrant.

Entomb-ment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will be at Fletcher Funeral Home in New Iberia, on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, from 7 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. with a Rosary being recited at 9 a.m. followed by musical selections at 10 a.m.

A native of New Iberia, and resident of Lafayette, Ms. Riggs passed on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at  3:45 p.m. at Meadowbrook Specialty Hospital in Lafayette. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church where she was a former member of Our Lady of Victory Court No. 63, Knights Of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Altar Society

She leaves in God’s care one  grateful daughter, Linda Faye Bernard (Wayne) of Scott; two grandchildren Travis Bernard and Miranda Bernard of Scott; her godchild, Mary Davis of New Iberia; her longtime companion Wilfred Russell, her motherly care extended to Peggie, Lillie, King, and Avery Munson and this also includes the children of Wilfred Derouen Sr. and Wilfred Russell as well as a host of friends

She now joins in glory with her parents, Joseph Riggs Jr.  and Lorance Lazard Riggs and two infant daughters.

Active pallbearers will be Travis Bernard, Avery Munson, King Munson, Rickey Crofton, Patrick Prince and Roland Egwer Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Bernard, Wilfred Russell, Pratt Munson, Arthur Stredit, Junius Lewis Jr., Murray Jackson, Wilfred Derouen Jr., Larry Johnson, Leroy Thomas and Christopher Johnson

Public condolences may be expressed at www.fletcherfuneralhomes.org .

The family requested the professional care of Fletcher Funeral Home, 609 W. Admiral Doyle Drive, 369-3341.
