Melanie R. Darkest

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Brookhollow Baptist Church in Houston for Melanie R. Darkest, 33, who died Tuesday, November 10, 2009.

Rev. Lynette McLain will officiate the services.

Melanie attended Center Street Elementary, Freshman High and New Iberia Senior High School in New Iberia. She graduated from Langharn Creek High School in Houston. She was employed as a certified pharmacy technician in Houston.

Melanie is survived by her father, Willie Darkest and his wife Judy Darkest of New Iberia; her mother Andrea Obey Wright and her husband David Wright of Katy, Texas; her siblings Joycelyn Darkest of Katy, Texas, Courtney Darkest of Lafayette, Aaron Darkest of Abbeville; stepbrother Herbert McCullum III (Lakeisha) and stepsister Toni McCullum Isaacs (Kenyon) of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Lumas Darkest and Andrus Obey, her uncles, Charles Donahue Obey and Joseph Donald Darkest.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her parents, grandmothers, aunts, uncles, nephews, niece and a host of cousins and friends.

Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, Houston, Texas (281) 497-2210, is in charge of arrangements.

    I was Melaine's babysitter when she a youngster. I was sadded to hear about her death. I do remember her as a sweet little girl. She attended my late Aunt Vida's daycare center and was also a visitor to my parents home. I try to keep up with all the babies I've watched over as a teenager. Please know that everyone in the family is in my prayers. "
