Cap and Tax

I'm tired of being lied to by scheming, busybody politicians. President Obama and the Democrats promised there would be NO new taxes on the middle class. But everywhere I look I see middle class tax increases.

The healthcare bill is full of them, and the cap-and-trade bill is NOTHING BUT a middle class tax increase. It will raise my gasoline and electric bills to accomplish a supposed public purpose (as defined by you guys). That s a tax, by any definition (except a politician's) .

I'm tired of you guys playing fraudulent word-games to avoid responsibility for your actions. For example, I'm offended by this ABC interview from September 20 between George Stephanopoulos and President Obama:

STEPHANOPOULOS: "I don't think I'm making it up (that you're going to raise taxes). Merriam Webster's Dictionary: 'Tax: a charge, usually of money, imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes.'"

OBAMA: "George, the fact that you looked up Merriam's Dictionary, the definition of tax increase, indicates to me that you're stretching a little bit right now. Otherwise, you wouldn't have gone to the dictionary to check on the definition."

This is evidence that moral rot has taken hold with the President.

Does he believe that words should be defined to suit his personal needs, instead of by common usage as reflected in an authoritative dictionary?

The "cap and trade" scheme is for a public purpose (as defined by you guys) It will cost me more money, therefore . . .

It's a tax -- a tax INCREASE that the middle class will have to pay in violation of the promises we were made I know you folks don't read your bills, and neither you nor I can be certain that your staffs are really telling you everything you ought to know about the legislation you pass, so maybe you should read this post by Declan McCullagh at CBS News.

The "cap and trade" scheme could cost American families $1,761 a year - equivalent to a 15% income tax increase! Your staffs should also brief you on the European experience with "cap and trade." It hasn't capped emissions

-- they've grown instead. Cap-and-trade is both a failure and a tax increase

Look, I have to be frugal during hard times. But I can't do that if you guys increase my taxes. Stop breaking my budget! Scrap the "cap and tax" bill!

" I continue to waste my time contacting Landrieu and Melancon, who are going to do exactly as they please with no regard for the constituency.

What continues to amaze me, though, is the number of people who still blindly support anything and everything Obama wants to do. They start with the premise that if Obama wants it, it must be good. Then they either spin the facts or just ignore obvious problems, lies, and inconsistencies. This is usually followed by blaming Bushfor everything. "

" Obama said your energy bill would only increase about the cost of a daily postage stamp after cap and trade. He didn’t tell you that fertilizer manufacturers energy costs would also increase by a postage stamp, which must be added to the price he charges the farmer. He didn’t tell you the farmer must add his postage stamp to his produce, or that the food store must add their postage stamp to the cost of food.

How many postage stamps will we pay for before this cycle ends? "

" Before the election I heard many people say that Obama said he would not raise their taxes and they believed him. If these were 18 year olds who were voting for the first time I could accept that. But no, these were people in their 40's or older. All have been on this Earth long enough to know that politicians lie to get elected. They also should know that to see how someone will govern in the future we need to look at their past. As a U.S. Senator he had the distinction of being the most liberal-politician-in-congress.-Does-a-person-have-to-be-a-genius-to-realize-that-such-a-person-will-raise-taxes-on-the-middle-class? "

" To put ones own definition to a word is as easy as "it depends on what the definition of is is" The problem is , we let them get away with doing that by electing them. Charles Schumer said once that he had all the respect for the Constitution unless it interfered with what he wanted. Politicians seem to think they can do what ever they want regardless of the law or what they took on oath to uphold and abide by. "

" Obama is trying to bring this country down with spending, entitlements, increasing government, more and more taxes hidden in EVERY bill that is passed! He's being aided by Nancy Pelosi who doesn't have a clue as to what this will do to our economy because she is TOTALLY out of touch with reality!!! The only thing she is concerned with is that little hammer she wields as speaker of the house and she is drunk with power!!
Read Obama's book! He hates what this country stands for!!! That's why he's trying to bring down this economy!!! So he can establish his dream! "

" The last thing we need in the middle of difficult times is a tax increase on the middle class. That will cause middle class families to restrict their budgets and further prolong this economic stalemate, if not deepen a downturn. Politicians are indeed lying about what they're delivering.

Good luck, Mike. Good luck to us all. "
