Ten dollars. In these economic times, a “Hamilton” does not buy very much. That is, unless you purchase a ticket for the 13th annual Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce’s Taster’s Luncheon.

Butch Bourgeois, president of the Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce, said the group is looking for dishes to be donated to the successful event which helps with the operating expenses of the chamber.

“The luncheon is one of the most popular events the chamber hosts,” Bourgeois said. “We always have plenty of dishes, from casseroles and meats to the desserts made by Chef Blake Payne, from Mr. Lester’s.”

Rickey Lancon, chamber vice president, said the group is in the planning stages now and are looking for people who want to donate a dish for the event.

“Right now, we are looking for just about anything,” Lancon said. “Meat casseroles would be a good choice. We expect a good turnout, maybe better than in years past.”

The event is held at the Ward 8 Recreation Center in the Sugar City on the first Thursday of August.

Many of the recipes are included in the chamber’s cookbook, which was first published in 1982. The cookbook is into its fifth printing, with new recipes being added each time.

Tickets are $10 and are available from any chamber member.

A small price to pay for a great meal surrounded by friends. The best of all, Bourgeois said, you don’t have to cook and you don’t have to wash dishes when you are finished. Come pass a good time.
