Catholic High School quarterback Taylor Bullock earned his second straight Dauterive Hospital/Daily Iberian Offensive Player of the Week honor in a vote by fans of Teche Area high school football teams, and was joined by teammate Brennan Kenner as Defensive Player of the Week after the Panthers’ third straight blowout win in District 6-3A play.

Bullock received the most votes from fans for the second straight week after passing for 178 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for another TD in Catholic High’s 41-6 win over Berwick on a wet, muddy field.

The Panthers had beaten West St. Mary 70-0 the week before, with Bullock throwing for six first-half touchdowns, and defeated Franklin 41-7 the week before.

CHS, which is 3-1 in district, has a chance to earn a share of the District 6-3A championship tonight if the Panthers can beat league leader E.D. White, which at 8-1 overall and 4-0 in district is ranked sixth in the state by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Bullock received 38 percent of the vote, edging the Loreauville High School offensive line at 34 percent and New Iberia Senior High defensive lineman/ running back Chris Cormier at 28 percent.

Ashton Knatt, Braylon Broussard, Cody Gonsoulin, Dustin Anthony, Cody Latiolais and tight end Charles Francois blocked for three 100-yard rushers in Loreauville’s 42-0 win over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte, with the Tigers gaining a total of 464 yards on the ground.

Cormier, pressed into duty as a runner because of sloppy field conditions, helped NISH beat Terrebonne 30-25 in a non-district game with 78 yards and three touchdowns.

Kenner, a defensive lineman, had 12 tackles and two sacks in Catholic High’s win. He had 46 percent of the fan vote.

New Iberia’s Brennan Benson was next in the voting with 35 percent after an interception and a forced fumble.

Tyler Jackson of Westgate netted 19 percent of the fan vote in the poll at The Daily Iberian’s Web site, www.iberianet.com, after making 15 solo tackles and three assists.
