A Celebration of Life service will be held for Rev. Martha Wesley Willery, the former Martha Williams, 91, on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Fletcher Funeral Home, New Iberia, with Archbishop Willie Ross of St. Jude Spiritual Church of Franklin, officiating.

She will await the resurrection at Beau Pre Cemetery, Jeanerette.

A gathering of family and friends will be at Fletcher Funeral Home on Saturday at 7 a.m. until the time of service.

Rev. Martha “Mot” W. Willery, the daughter of the late Daniel Williams and Viola Johnson Williams, was born December 18, 1918, in Jeanerette. Rev. Martha W. Willery accepted Christ at an early age. She was married to James Wesley Jr. and to this union was born one daughter Julia Mae Wesley Manuel, whom she loved dearly.  During her early years she resided in Jeanerette and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Jeanerette. She was very active in the community, church, and school activities.  Her daily life was devoted to serving God, caring for her family and lending a helping hand to those who were in need. Later in life she married Roosevelt Willery, where they resided in New Iberia. She changed her membership to Israelite Divine Spiritual Church, where she received her Missionary’s License. On July 11, 1971, she received her Ordination Credential from Israel Universal Divine Spiritual Church of Christ. On Jan. 20, 1974, she received her Certificate of Ordination at St. Jude’s United Spiritual Church of Christ and on June 10, 1978, she became Assistant Minister and held this position faithfully for several years. She enjoyed working for her Church. Rev. Willery was a member of Harry Eugene Unit 549 Jeanerette. Her health started failing April 5, 2009, and she peacefully passed away on Oct. 31, 2009.

She leaves in God’s care, her daughter Julia M. Wesley Manuel (Leo) of Jeanerette; one grandson, Brian C. Manuel (Nema) of Laurel, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She joins in glory with her parents, Viola and Daniel Williams; two sisters Mary Williams and  Bishop Julia Mae Lewis; two husbands, James Wesley Jr. and Roosevelt Willery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Manuel, Morris Lewis Sr., Rev. Joseph C. Smith, Dallas Walters Sr., Felton  Colar Sr., Handsome Miller, Rev. Felton Colar Jr. and Joseph Mitchell.
