Four area teams getting votes

Despite winning a big District 6-2A football game against Sacred Heart of Ville Platte last week on the road, the Jeanerette football team lost a couple of points in the latest Class 2A high school football poll, released late Monday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Jeanerette (7-1 overall) received 7 points in the latest poll after beaing the Trojans 16-8. The Tigers had 8 points in last week’s poll.

JSH is one of four Teche Area teams receiving votes in the latest poll.

Also in the Class 2A poll, Loreauville (6-2) has 3 points, up from the 1 point the Tigers received the week before. LHS beat Port Barre 21-13.

Westgate (5-3) has 1 point in the latest Class 5A football poll. The Tigers suffered a 23-6 loss to St. Thomas More (5-3) last Thursday. STM has 5 points in the latest poll.

Delcambre is the other Teche Area team receiving votes with 6 points in the Class A poll after beating Vermilion Catholic 7-3 last Thursday. The Panthers (5-3) had 4 points the week before.

Northside (6-2), ranked fifth, and Breaux Bridge (5-3), ranked ninth in Class 4A, play in District 6-4A with St. Martinville. Also in the district and receiving votes is Teurlings Catholic (3-5) with 4 points.

In Class 3A, Erath’s District 5-3A rivals Notre Dame (8-0), Kaplan (7-1) and North Vermilion (5-2) all are receiving votes; Notre Dame is ranked first, Kaplan sixth and NVHS has 11 points.

Catholic High’s District 6-3A rivals E.D. White (7-1) and Patterson (5-3) are ranked sixth and ninth, respectively. CHS (5-3) did not receive any votes this week.a
