Jeanerette stays perfect in district

VILLE PLATTE -- Anthony Williams rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns to help Jeanerette remain unbeaten in District 6-2A football play with a 16-8 win at Sacred Heart on Friday.

Williams gave JSH the lead in the first quarter with a 75-yard scoring run, then broke an 8-all tie in the third quarter with a 30-yard TD run.

Darion Hurst added four receptions for 62 yards for the Tigers, who improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in district with the win. Kendrick Charles was 6-for-10 for 66 yards in the air.

Cain Thevenot scored on a 12-yard pass from Kaleb Fontenot for Sacred Heart. Ian David added the 2-point conversion.

The Trojans fell to 4-4 and 0-3.

Jeanerette plays at Opelousas Catholic on Thursday.

Delcambre 7, Vermilion Catholic 3

ABBEVILLE -- Josh Ruiz’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Erick LeBlanc in the second quarter was the difference as Delcambre beat District 7-A rival Vermilion Catholic Friday.

The Ruiz-to-LeBlanc connection in the second quarter gave the Panthers the lead after VC’s Garth Mitchell kicked a 30-yard field goal in the first period to give the Eagles their only score of the game.

In a surprising defensive struggle, the Panthers (5-3, 2-1) managed only 192 yards of offense. Jorey Renard led DHS with 72 yards rushing. Ruiz completed the only pass he attempted and Dylan Bourque completed four of eight passes for 35 yards.

VC scraped together 156 yards of offense. Tyler Vincent led the Screaming Eagles with 63 yards rushing while Aaron David completed eight of 25 passes for 66 yards.

Delcambre plays host to Ascension Episcopal Friday.

Hanson 40, Ascension Episcopal 13

LAFAYETTE -- Charles Uze had two touchdown runs and Drake Rodriguez rushed for a score and passed for another as Hanson picked up its first win of the year Friday, beating District 7-A rival Ascension Episcopal.

The Tigers (1-7, 1-2) were tied with the Blue Gators (2-5, 0-3) at 13 all at the end of the first quarter but outscored AES 27-0 over the final three quarters for the win.

Uze scored on a two-yard run in the first quarter and a three-yard run in the second quarter. Rodriguez ran it in from a yard out in the second quarter and hit Brandon LeBlanc on a 13 yard touchdown pass in the third.

Zachary Stewart added a three-yard run and Zach Saintes had an interception return for a score for Hanson, which amassed 425 yards of offense.

Myles Lee scored twice for AES.

Hanson travels to Central Catholic Thursday.

Kaplan 40, Erath 3

KAPLAN -- Sam Hoffpauir rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns, Mark Constable added 100 yards and a touchdown and Jalen Baker had 80 yards and three scores as Kaplan beat Erath Friday in District 5-3A action.

Hoffpauir scored on runs of one and 38 yards, Constable scored on a three-yard run and Baker had touchdown runs of 19, three and eight yards. Kaplan improved to 7-1 overall, 3-0 in district.

The Pirates led 14-0 in the second before Erath’s Mikey Seymour kicked a 32-yard field goal to cut the lead to 14-3. Kaplan then reeled off 26 straight points to put the game away.

Dason Bernard led Erath (3-5, 0-3) with 42 yard rushing while Juse Cessac completed six of 16 passes for 73 yards.

Erath travels to Rayne Friday.

Patterson 48, Franklin 6

FRANKLIN -- Nick Nolan threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as Patterson blew past Franklin in a District 6-3A game Friday.

Nolan had touchdown passes of seven yards to Alex Angeron and 25 and 65 yards to Jaydrick Declouet.

The Lumberjacks are tied for second place in district with Catholic High at 5-3 overall and 2-1 in district. E.D. White (7-1) leads the district with a 3-0 record.

Kenny Hilliard ran for 120 yards and had scoring runs of two and one yards for the ’Jacks.

Franklin travels to E.D. White Friday.

Denham Springs 35, St. Martinville 7

ST. MARTINVILLE -- Aaron Webb rushed for 108 yards, Josh Miley and Romel Williams each had a rushing touchdown and Tanner Wells threw for two scores as Denham Springs beat St. Martinville Friday in a non-district game.

After a scoreless first quarter, Denham Springs (6-2) scored 21 second quarter points to take control of the game as the Tigers dropped to 1-7 overall.

Jamar Vallaire had the only score for the Tigers as he intercepted a Tanner Wells pass and returned it 70 yards for the touchdown.

St. Martinville travels to Opelousas on Friday.
