A New Iberia woman was arrested Sunday in connection with a hit and run accident that reportedly killed a Jeanerette man, according to Louisiana State Police.

Lisa Mayon, 43, 3104 Curtis Lane, was arrested after troopers located the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident parked in front of her mobile home.

Mayon was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on charges of hit and run driving, driving without insurance and “having an unsafe vehicle,” State Police said in a press release.

Troopers said they did not have enough evidence to charge Mayon in the death of 59-year-old Russell Lewis, a Jeanerette man found dead in a ditch Saturday morning on Hubertville Road.

“Based on the evidence we have, those are the charges at this time,” said Trooper Stephen Hammons, a State Police spokesman.

Hammons did not rule out the prospect of troopers upgrading the charges as the investigation develops. He said no further arrests are expected.

Authorities had been looking for a molten red Dodge Dakota with a missing headlight and a damaged passenger side door. After locating pieces of the Dakota at the scene, troopers said the vehicle likely struck Lewis sometime Friday night, though the body was not discovered until early Saturday.

Iberia Parish Coroner Dr. James Falterman Sr. said the victim died from multi-system trauma. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. Mayon was arrested without incident at her residence around 4 p.m. Sunday. Hammons declined to say whether Mayon offered an explanation for the damage to the vehicle, citing the ongoing investigation.

Mayon remained in jail this morning as she awaited a bond hearing.

" I knew him as "Cold Doc". He was a decent man. His death is truly a tragedy. Only that selfish lady knows why she didnt call 911. She was concerned for her on well being, while this man lay dying in a ditch. What goes on in the dark will eventually come to the light. may god bless his soul and may he rest in peace. My prayers and condolences to the family. "

the person who hit the individual will have to live with this for the rest of her life. Yes, she should have stopped and call for help why we none know. Anger will not solve it justice will prevail. "

" DO NOT MURDER! One of the TEN COMMANDMENTS. How can any human being hit another human being or an animal even and leave it lying in a ditch to die alone? Brother Brother could have lived if she had stopped and called 911 for help. Yes or No? We'll never know because she drove off. I pray for his soul and his family that GOD will comfort them in their traggic loss. And YES, there is a GOD! "

Thank Zeus I am an atheist! "
