Pesson teachers re-ceived not only a donation of $10,300 from Cargill, but also recognition and congratulations from Superintendent Dale Henderson and the Iberia Parish School Board for taking the initiative in seeking out the award to improve elementary education for its students.
“Sometimes faculty and staff members take the initiative and they go out and they seek things that others would not seek, and that’s what the faculty and staff, Ms. Jefferson and Ms. Brenda Willis, did,” Henderson said. “They went out and received a grant for increasing and enhancing technology.”

“On behalf of the children, because the children come first, as our motto says, to everyone who has a factor in touching the life of a child, I want to thank you,” Jefferson said.
Sadie Polk, human resource manager for Cargill and member of the company’s donation committee, pointed out many of the company’s contributions come from connections between the company and the schools, and that in this instance it was a connection through Willis.
Willis’ subsequent work for the award was necessary and involved a lot of back and forth until the process was complete, Polk said.
Polk also thanked the School Board for its commitment to quality education and the schools.
“I just want to thank everybody in this room for everything you already do for the children and for the community,” Polk said. “Cargill will be willing to partner in any way we possibly can.”
