What good is a temp agency?

Do you ever get tired of temp agencies putting ads in the paper NEED IMMEDIATELY and when you call or send over a resume, they tell you that they have no positions available at this time??? Why play with people's emotions like that??? People are desperate right now, don't mislead them. I am sure there are enough applicants already to fill any and all positions that may come available. Temp services, please change your ad to say something like "Applicant discretion is advised-we do not have work, but the more applicants we get, the better our branch looks". Or how about for wasting applicants time, give them at least $5 for gas. Just a thought...

" To Pooyie, Did you really expect to be rewarded with a job by phoning in? The joke was on you when you finnally arrived. They wanted to have a good laugh after they walked off. 1st, you established you were too lazy to even make a proper presentation , 2nd, by your own admisions you are a potential entagonist, that probable shown through. " I work for a staffing agency. First, make sure you have the qualification, resume good grammar and spelling. Keep a log date/time and names where is the corporate office located and owner(s).

" i know things are tuff for everyone right now. My husband has been out of work for over 2 months now and i have been trying to pay all bills by myself and i feel like its a loseing battle. I would like to help some people out though. I work for Doerle's food service in broussard. They have been hireing quite a bit lately. As long as you have a clean criminal record and pass a drug screen they will pretty much train you for whatever position they are hireing for. "

" When the calls I made were not getting returned, I went in to see the person named in the ad. I waited in the reception area for 45 minutes. Then the person I was waiting to see, came out with a young girl, looked at me and said she would be right back. After another 30 minutes, she called me in the back. If I wasn't so desperate for a job, I would have caused a rukus! "

" This has happened to me too! I saw an ad in the Sunday Daily Iberian. When I called the next day, the receptionist said they did not have any openings. I told her that an ad was in the paper the previous day, she put me on hold. When I asked to speak with the person named in the ad, she told me she was unavailable and she would have to return my phone call. I'm still waiting to hear from her! "

" It's not uncommon for staffing agencies to post jobs that don't exist or that are filled with someone from another dept. within the company. They are still required to post the job. Same thing with those job sites on the internet. The logic behind it is beyond me. You can call as soon as a job is posted. They tell you how much they like your resume and will call you. And then, you wait...........and just keep trying other places. "

" I worked for Willstaff years ago and actually ended up getting hired at that company, working there for a while. I even worked for Willstaff itself when they were short handed before that, answering phones. In little ole New Iberia I'm sure times are hard right now, and from I hear from friends it's very difficult to find something right now! I wish everyone who's looking luck, and the ones that aren't should feel lucky!! "

" Our company has previously "tried" to find people through a temp agency. We gave the qualifications that the person needed to have and after them sending us 3 different people none of which had the qualifications we asked for, we decided to dump the temp agency and find someone on our own. I think they need to screen their employees better. "

" I totally agree with flip side, we hire through a temp agency sometimes and they people they DO send us aren't qualified, or don't show up for work, can't speak english, can't write. It's very frustrating. "

" Could it be that you don't have the skills for the positions that are available? I hire one in about 100 applicants. The rest simply don't qualify. Don't have a successful work history, don't read and write well enough, don't have computer skills, can't pass the drug test, etc. and so on. "
