CHS Bonfire Cancelled

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 5:26 AM CDT

Oh Boy

Because some the the Juniors & Seniors of CHS do not know how to act; the bonfire on Thursday night is now cancelled.  They were using paintballs to damage homes, cars and were shooting each other with them!!!  What happened to using toilet paper???   It was a mess to clean up the next morning but it did not damage property!!!!  Shame on those students for having the entire school miss out on this homecoming activity.  I sure hope this is a lesson well learned for the upcoming classes!!!!

GO BIG RED!!!!!

" Get over it. Happens every year. Parents complain for what their sons and daughters are also doing. Paintball guns don't damage anything, you are ignorant for thinking they do. Just more people looking to complain about CHS. find something else to do with your time. "

Doc Voorhies could handle more than most teachers, and obviously more than you ever could. (Can't speak for Jordan; he never taught me.) I'd call teaching for years without a paycheck pretty darned devoted. He's gotten a well-deserved rest, in particular, from having to deal with questioners like you. "

" Our yard was toilet papered heavily. We lived through it by simply raking it up. I did not consider it "vandalism". Nothing was broken. Its an old tradition that even current teachers at CHS did when they were seniors, so what's the frenzy about toilet paper hanging from trees? For God's sake, where is your humor? People over exaggerate. That's why CHS gets a bad rap with the public. A hand full of juniors did use paint ball guns, only they should be punished, not the entire fleet of students. "

" Don't bash Uhl. He did the right thing. I guess it is ok for your kids to go around damaging property too. This is a Catholic school and they are to learn morals and ethics. Where are the morals and ethics when these kids are allowed to do this. If any one of these kids would have damaged my property, I would not have let it go. I work too hard for what I have. And, yes, my children did go to CHS. "

" Why punish the whole student body and all the alumni of CHS, SPC and MCA. I graduated from CHS and always look forward to seeing at the bonfire all my old friends and the old teachers from CHS. So what with the bad weather, they could have had a pep rally in the gym. I think that Uhl is overstepping his boundaries. The Parents of the students of CHS, the alumni, the parish priest need to do something soon with Uhl,because soon there won't be a CHS. Question, why did Jordan & Doc Voorhies quit? "

" My child was at home all week. He may not like me right now, but at least I can say that My child did not destroy anyone's property. I also agree that if it is true that a parent had a bonfire, what are you teaching your children...if you are told no...there are other ways around to get what you want? "

Is it true wrote on Oct 22, 2009 8:36 PM:

" I heard today that one of the senior parents went ahead and put on a bonfire for the students anyway. If that is true, then they are asking for trouble for the rest of their lives. If you start allowing, and even aiding kids to get around their punishments, you're in for a long road ahead. "

Shame on the parents wrote on Oct 22, 2009 7:05 PM:

" Blame the parents! Do they not know where their kids are during the week? Is there not a curfew? And, why is that obnoxious kid who damaged property with swastikas still at that school? He walks around like he is king!! The rest of us have had enough. And, you better believe that if he stays at CHS, then next year when he is a senior, he will damage more property. What is wrong with the people who catch these students? PRESS CHARGES!!!! Let these kids have a record. "

" I never understood the Junior-Senior wars. Each year I try to discourage it, but the students spent their time and creativity on increasingly destructive assaults. It was a vicious cycle that got progressively worse. It had gotten to the point of egging and putting vaseline on cars, causing significant financial damages. This "tradition" needed to stop a long time ago, but I never see the parents doing enough to discourage it. Perhaps now they'll realize that no matter how old the teenager is, parents are responsible for raising their children to responsible adults who respect other's property. "

" this has nothing to do with the teachers...this has to do with the kids who are damaging property! I applaud Dr. Uhl for taking away the bonfire. The seniors want it back but I hope Uhl sticks to his decision. Its easy to say Im sorry after the fact. They should have thought about the bonfire and the other students before damaging property. "

" Don't you all see the entire picture. The weather report has had rain for Thursday night since last week. The bonfire being canceled was brillant! He knew it would be canceled because of the rain, so what better way to punish the Juniors and Seniors. We won't be able to have it anyway. I sure that NISH will have to cancel their bonfire also because of the weather. Quit being so childish. Life will go on with or without a bonfire. Blame God on the weather! "

" As a graduate of CHS it really does upset me that the school is going down hill at such a high rate. It seems as if since I graduated most of the teachers that made huge impacts on so many have either quit and moved to other schools or were fired for not being part of the right "clique." My senior year similar things happened and the bonfire was almost cancelled then too; however, our teachers stood up for those of us who had not caused the problems. Don't make the good suffer for the bad!! "

" From what I understand one of the kids involved in this is the same kid who painted raceist symbols on houses around town. But his Mom is in the "clique" with Uhl and on the School Board so as usual nothing is going to happen to him. Punish those who deserve to be punished. Why punish the team and the young ladies on the court for the stupidity of a few. Poor leadership! The school is out of control and the Chancelor does not seem to care. Didn't those involved admit to it! "
