Crochet Road issues

It is disturbing that someone who has an issue with the Iberia Parish Council or with a particular member of the council can distort the facts concerning the re-surfacing of Crochet Road.

Fact: One only has to drive down Crochet Road to realize the need for re-surfacing.

Fact: Crochet Road has become a short cut between Highway 86 (Loreauville Road) and Highway 87 (Old Jeanerette Road). This increase in traffic, which includes cars and large trucks has an increase in road damage as any resident or traveler is quite aware.

Fact: Appropriations for the re-surfacing of roads (including Crochet Road) were approved in April, 2003 (resolution 200-75) and again in September, 2008 (resolution 2008-324), upon the recommendation of two different independent engineering firms.

Fact: An agreement to purchase the property was made by the developers in November, 2008, after the resolution for resurfacing was approved.

Fact: The roots of the trees growing along the ditch impeded the drainage of water from Highway 87 to Te Bayou and should have been removed to improve drainage.

Fact: The developers spent a substantial amount of money to run a water line from Highway 87 to Te Bayou which allowed residents on both sides of the road to obtain city water at a savings to them.

Fact: The developers were asked to donate 15 feet of their property (approximately 9000 feet long) to the parish to widen the road. Quite a few square feet and acreage was donated.

Fact: Although the offer was not accepted, the developers of the property offered to dig a drainage ditch from Highway 87 to Te Bayou at no cost to the parish.

Since letters to the editor are opinions it is my opinion that anyone who distorts the truth to imply inappropriate action by a council member or members should be held accountable since the implication involved others (in this case the developers of the property on Crochet Road).

Where did your information come from? How much was spent for Lawco to run the water line? HOW many hours did the parish run our equipment to REDIG A DITCH, Then a few weeks later star moving the ditch over a few feet? I am tired of our parish wasting tax dollars on useless projects, why arent YOU? "

    " If politics isnt involed in the work being done on crochet road, why hasnt anything been done on the road between hwy 86 and t bayou. I have driven through two feet of water on the road near the bridge, THIS MONTH! , The road is in just as bad shape, and tree roots completely fill in the ditch on one side of the road. I guess if the property on that side were for sale it would matter? Would it depend on who is selling it? The road should have been resurfaced as it was,NOWORK ON PRIVATE PROPERTY. "

    Fact: Parish cleaned out trees which will increase the value of that property.

    Fact: Parish reworking ditch for drainage.

    Fact: Parish dug ditch...was it engineered?

    Fact: Road will be resurfaced.

    Fact: Does it need all of this.....yes.

    Fact: No names were mentioned in this letter, councilman or developers. "

    " The parish dug a ditch 10 years ago on the other side of this property, After nocking down a tree line aprox 9000 feet long a, ( your estimate) and 20 feet wide ( I live here). I dont know where the crap your proposed ditch would have been dug? The middled of the lots? You sure seem to know a lot about this deal, I know I have been watching my property flood for 25 years and the new ditch hasn't changed a thing. It isnt deep or wide enough to drain all the land with heavyrain. "

    " I live on crochet rd,it has been resurface several times in the last 20 years. the speed limit is 35 anyone who uses it as a short cut is speeding, so I dont care if the road is in bad shape. It is the cane carts that tear the road up, not the cars. I only know of one person who is getting water, We all have water wells, so who cares about city water. The roots dont matter, there is a ditch on the other side of the road with no trees, and there are culverts crossingunder the road. "
