Cora Ann Brown

Cora Ann B. Brown, affectionately known as “CoRanne,” was born in Baldwin, LA and was a lifelong resident of Galveston, TX.

Cora earned her nursing degree in 1967 and began her career with the University of Texas Medical Branch, retiring after 41 years of service.

Cora was called home to eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at the University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Alston B. Brown; daughters, Sonia Taylor, Juliet Johnson, and Andrea Derby (David); son, Richard Brown (Carmen); sisters, Annie Guine (Leonard), Linda August (Howard), Brenda B. Robertson, Jessie Brown; brothers, Clarence Brown (Marilyn), Gerald Brown (Charlotte), and Raymond Brown (Lee); aunt, Susie C. Lewis; mother-in-law, Lillian Morris; grandchildren, Marshal and Morgan Taylor, Caleb Vignes, Reginald Johnson, Keishan, Kandace, Kayla Derby, Richard Jr. and Antonio Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleveland and Eula Brown; one child, one sister, three brothers, seven aunts, four uncles, two nieces, two nephews and one son-in-law.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Galveston, TX. Interment at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, Hitchcock, TX. Funeral arrangements entrusted by E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary.
