Alice C. Clay

FOUR CORNERS — Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Alice C. Clay, 83, the former Alice Clavelle, on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Baptist Church of Four Corners with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the church until time of service.

Born in Jeanerette, she resided in the Four Corners area for 54 years. She died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Iberia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. A member of St. John Baptist Church for many years,  she served as a deaconess and supported all other church organizations. Alice was also a member of Queen Esther Chapter No. 10 Order of Easter Star.

She is survived by her husband, Calvin Clay, of Four Corners; two sons John Allen Lockett of Slidell and Michael Ray Lockett of Lafayette; two stepsons Raymond Lockett of Baton Rouge and Nolan Lockett of New Orleans; four daughters Alice Mae Charles of Jeanerette, Jacqueline Smith Cox and Bernadette Lockett Thomas, both of Houston and Cresie Page of Los Angeles; three brothers Frank Clavelle of Jeanerette,  Charles Clavelle of Port Arthur, Texas, and Chester Clavelle of Chicago; one sister Mildred Hogan of Jeanerette; 28 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Clavelle; three brothers Wilfred Clavelle, Robert Clavelle Jr. and Sejas Clavelle; four sisters Annie Mae Williams, Hilda J. Key, Myrtle Rhine and Hilda Clavelle; and one stepson Aubrey Lockett.

Pallbearers will be Michael Jacob Thomas, Jamar Cox, Troy Page, Aubrey Franz Lockett, Frank Clavelle Jr. and Donnell Clay.

Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Hogan, Rashari Cox, Calvin Clay Jr., Desmond McNeil and Louis Jolivette Jr.

The Alex Lovett Funeral Services Inc. of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.
