To quoate Gomer Pyle, shame shame shame. I wonder how  my daughter and son feel about the 11 percent voter turnout in our parish. Maybe they will think about on their way to Iraq. Why should they go fight when 89 percent doesent care.

" You may not ever know how proud I am of your service to this country, even though I don't know who you are. My nephew served five years in the army and six months in Iraq. The things you are asked to do in the name of justice and peace, would be beyond me, or at least I feel I would not measure up well. I wish you all the best.
    Sincerely,

" If you didnt know about the election, its probably better that you didnt vote. You have no idea what is going on. How can you know how to vote. The election was talked about in the forum , on the radio, on the news. Do you come out of the Basin once a month for gas and your government check ? "

" Military Father.....I understand your frustration. I am an Iraq vet and have been serving my country for 16 years. People take our liberties for granted. I salute your children for their bravery. Most people never leave the country of their birth and get to see how good we have it as Americans. This is the greatest country in the world. I have been to every continent other than Antartica and I am always glad to set foot back in our great country. "

" I know that they voted to build a new elementary school and combine Hopkins and Jonhston Street into one school. I believe that is a good thing because they have built new schools for most of the parish. I thought it kind of dumb that they didn't make North Lewis Elementary bigger and have Dodson Elementary combine with them. "

" There were a lot of people that did not know about this. My daughter called me because she got a recorded message when she answered, so she called me to see what was going on because we are usually well informed and we knew nothing. Not much advertisement. If we would have voted, it would have been. 1. No, 2. No. "

" Few people realize that if the tax renewal for the school board would have failed to pass, every house hold and businesses could have realized a savings of $400-$700 per year ( in sales tax, maybe more depending how much one spends)). During these last few school construction projects, many obvious problems occured due to the lack of onsight supervision that resulted in numerous cost overruns. Not a very efficient way to spend taxpayers money. I will not support any future tax renewal or new taxes associated with the school board. "

" Making elections NOT fall the same time as other elections (i.e.mayor, parish president, president, senate, etc.) is usually good for politicians asking for a raise. They know few people will show up and will probably vote in favor of the raise. This time it backfired. GOOD! It's time our "servants" realize they chose to serve. Also, the cost to have these elections opposite other elections cost us, the taxpayers, more money. This should have been placed on the 2010 ballots. Who knows, maybe our leaders will try again at that time to! "
