Edna Mae Fontenette

A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Edna Mae “Muzz” Fontenette, 81, the former Edna Mae Young will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Fletcher Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arthur Lee Alexander officiating.

She will await the resurrection at St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery in Jeanerette.

She passed on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at her residence following a brief illness.

She was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess for many years. She was a licensed cosmetologist and a member of the National Beauty Cultural League Inc.; Acadiana Area Beauticians and (LSBA) Louisiana State Beautician Association. She was employed at Jeanerette Mills and later worked at the Council of Aging; she was a cafeteria worker at Francis Boley High School and Canal Street Elementary.

She leaves in God’s care two sons Ricky Fontenette Sr. (Dianne) of San Antonio, Texas, and Roger Fontenette Sr. (Stephanie) of El Paso, Texas; three daughters Jerolyn Fontenette of Patterson, Wendy Gambles (Eric) of Jeanerette and Darlene Rodriguez (Jamie) of San Antonio, Texas; an adopted daughter Uceta Derouen of Jeanerette; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She joins in glory with her husband, Royal Fontenette Sr.; parents, Alex and Ebether Conway Young; son Royal Fontenette Jr.; one brother Alex Young Jr.; three sisters Ruby Young, Jessica Moore and Virginia Mitchell.

Active pallbearers will be Dr. Roderick Fontenette, Ronald Hall, Ramon Fontenette, Reginald Fontenette, Corey Fontenette and Royal Fontenette III.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Fontenette Sr., Ricky Fontenette Sr., Leonard Mitchell, Eric Gambles, James Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Raymond Mitchell, Roger Fontenette Jr., Rodney Fontenette, Ross Fontenette, Ricky Fontenette Jr. and Byron August.

The family requested the professional care of Fletcher Funeral Home, 609 W. Admiral Doyle Drive, 369-3341.
