Loreauville – Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Steven J. Oubre Sr., the former Paula Romero, 95, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Paul Onugebe officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m. until service time. A Rosary will be prayed at 1 p.m. Thursday.

She died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at 4:59 p.m. in a local hospital. Paula was born and raised in Breaux Bridge and moved to Loreauville when she married Steven “TooToo” Oubre. She was a nurse at LaSalette Hospital for many years and Florence Nightingale to many. She was awarded the “Outstanding Citizens Award” in 1976. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Loreauville and also attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children Glenn Oubre and wife, Julie, of New Iberia, Steve Oubre Jr. and wife, Sarah, of Lafayette and Sylvia Shrigley and husband, Gary, of Monarch Beach, Calif.; her sister Mary Ann Romero Pierce of Sedona, Ariz.; and her grandchildren Troy, Trent and Parker Oubre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven J. Oubre Sr.; parents, Paul and Amelie Thibodeau; five brothers Percy, Lynn, Paul, Newton and Claude Romero and three sisters Mary Jane LeBlanc, Genevieve Richard and Thelma Dailey.

Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn, Steven Jr., Troy, Trent and Parker Oubre and Gary Shrigley.
