Lucy M. Desormeaux

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 19, 2009, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia, for Lucy Meaux Desormeaux, 90, who passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009, in New Iberia.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate. Scripture readings will be proclaimed by Terrie Landry and Annette Romero. Gift bearers include Shannon Theriot, Joy Laine and Melissa Perez.

Born on March 15, 1919, in Abbeville, Mrs. Desormeaux won numerous medals by participating in the Senior Olympics. She also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons Marion Desormeaux and wife, Faye, of Broussard, Emile Desormeaux Jr. and wife, Linda, of Broussard, Mason Desormeaux Sr. and wife, Ruby, of New Iberia, Eddie Desormeaux and wife, Noel, of Katy, Texas, David Desormeaux and wife, Sheila, of New Iberia; daughters Mildred Delcambre of Delcambre, Lula Perez and husband Godfrey of Lydia, Judy Laine and husband, Paul, of New Iberia, Dianna Theriot and husband, Kevin Theriot Sr., of New Iberia; stepdaughter Audrey Trahan and husband, Roger, of St. Martinville; sister Estelle Newman and husband, Leo, of New Orleans; 29 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emile Desormeaux Sr.; parents, Alphe and Ursula Luent Meaux; great-granddaughter, Misty Desormeaux; twin great-grandsons, Jacob and John Desormeaux; step grandson, Kenny Bodin; son-in-law Leo Delcambre; brothers Alfred, Amedia, Louis and infant boy Meaux; sisters Josephine Meaux, Celestine Broussard, Ernestine Desormeaux, Rose Ognibene and Anna Mae Badeaux.

Pallbearers include Rodney Desormeaux, Danny Desormeaux, Marty Perez, Danny Fields Jr., Mason Desormeaux Jr., Brian Desormeaux, Brandon Desormeaux and Kevin Theriot Jr.

The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff of Belle Teche Nursing Home, Dr. Angela Mayeux and AAA Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion.

A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
