Robert ‘Chick’ Blanchard Sr.

Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. Robert “Chick” Blanchard Sr., 88, at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Stemmann officiating.  Interment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors by VFW Post 1982.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday with a Rosary at 6 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 9 a.m. on Saturday until service time.

A native of Loreauville and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Blanchard passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Blanchard served his country during WWII as a member of the 31st Batallion in the US Navy Seabees.  Mr. Blanchard was a member of the VFW Post #1982 and worked in the upholstering business for more than 65 years. He began his career as part owner of Davis Delcambre Motors in New Iberia and then went out on his own and started Blanchard Seat Covers in 1959. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always looked forward to dancing with his wife on the weekends.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joy Fleming Blanchard of New Iberia; his four children Robert J. Blanchard Jr. and his wife, Sheila Oubre, of Eunice; Mary Joy Blanchard, Dawn B. Romero and Edwin P. Blanchard and his wife, Michelle Stoutes, all of New Iberia and his three grandchildren Kelli Blanchard, Danielle Webb and Whitney Blanchard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Paul and Louise Gonsoulin Blanchard; four brothers Collins J., Calvin J., Junius J. and Whitney C. Blanchard; two sisters Carrie Marie Delcambre and Beulah Elizabeth Pepper and his son-in-law Lester Romero.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.
